A historic Bitcoin fragment has just changed hands. On January 23, a rare Alpha sat from block 78 sold on Magic Eden for 0.12 BTC, or around $12,400.

An Alpha Sat corresponds to the first satoshi of a Bitcoin. Block 78, mined on January 11, 2009, produced 50 bitcoins, and therefore 50 unique Alpha Sats from this block.

Today, only 11 Alpha Sats from Block 78 have been found and isolated by collectors. These satoshis are therefore extremely rare. Their value is all the greater in that the Alpha Sats of Block 9 have been definitively lost. Block 78 Alpha Sats are therefore the oldest in circulation.

By November 2024, two Alpha Sats from Block 78 had already been sold for 0.17 and 0.20 BTC, or around $17,000 and $20,000. A trend that confirms the growing interest of collectors in these unique fragments of Bitcoin history.
